Elimination Of Parthenium

The Carrot Weed or Feverfew which is commonly known to us is actually the Parthenium Hysterphorus weed. The origin of this obnoxious weed dates back to many centuries ago, i.e. during 4th Century BC in the Greek city of Parthenia. This weed has been named so according to the name of the Greek City. It was distributed throughout the whole world along with wheat. The country which adopted wheat as its staple food, that country was affected by the effects of this Parthenium.

Parthenium is of twenty three kinds. According to the Agronomists, the names of this weed are :-

[i] Parthenium alpinum

[ii] Parthenium argentatum

[iii] Parthenium auriculatum

[iv] Parthenium bipinatifidum

[v] Parthenium cineraceum

[vi] Parthenium confertum

[vii] Parthenium densipilum

[viii] Parthenium divericatum

[ix] Parthenium fruticosum

[ix] Parthenium glomeratum

[x] Parthenium hysterphours

[xi] Parthenium incacum

[xii] Parthenium integrifolium

[xiii] Parthenium ligulatum

[xiv] Parthenium lozanianum

[xv] Parthenium lyratum

[xvi] Parthenium microcephalum

             [xv] Parthenium rollinsianum

             [xvi] Parthenium schotti

            [xvii] Parthenium stramonium

            [xviii] Parthenium tetraneuris

            [xix] Parthenium tomentosum

            [xx] Parthenium trilobatum.

Common people not only name it as Carrot Weed, but also Ramphool, Chatak Chandini, Feverfew, White Top, Star Weed, Gar Ghas etc. Excepting only two or three, all others are harmful for the environment. Among them, Parthenium Hysterphours is the most widespread and obnoxious weed.

Parthenium Hysterphours is one among the ten most obnoxious weeds of the world. This dicotyledonous plant, after germination, covers the soil with its stem as well as looks very beautiful. It grows to an adult plant within 4 to 6 weeks after which it looks more beautiful due to its white flowers. From root to the auxiliary bud, it is totally soft and have fur-like outgrowths. One plant can produce 25,000 to 50,000 seeds among which all the seeds germinate without 0% loss. The seeds are very lighter and microscopic. Those can be transported throughout the world by the agents like Water, Air, Soil, Human Beings, Vehicles etc. and thus it spreads throughout the whole area. The seeds have the capability to germinate after more than 10 years of dormancy also.

Its pollen grains contain Parthenin and Plasmodium which are lethal microbes. Some also agree that the name “Parthenium” has been derived from Plasmodium and Parthenin. The environment has become very poisonous due to these microbes. Even if, it can cause Asthma, Kala-Azar, Dermatitis, Hay Fever, Sleeping Sickness, Bronchitis etc. Due to all its effects, a British website remarked India as “A Country Of Bad Lungs”. Not only this, but the domestic animals are also affected by different types of  disorders while grazing the Parthenium weed. They get affected by different types of skin disorders and their milk becomes bitter. It also destroys the Grazing Fields & also the Croplands in such a way that the croplands lose 85% of their fertility. Air Pollution is also caused due to it.

Keeping this idea in mind, many scientists of the world are spending lakhs of rupees per day, especially to destroy this obnoxious weed. All the research has resulted with a blunt failure. But, the solution named “PARKIL” has been made which can not only kill the Parthenium, but also all other types of dangerous weeds very easily. No bad effect is produced to the environment due to its application. Only some Statutory Warning is required, i.e. the weedicide should be sprayed only on the weed and the person spraying should be cautious that the spray should not fall on his body.

At last, but not the least, we should be aware that we can make everything possible if we will be cautious. Laws should be made to destroy Parthenium like the laws on Afforestation and Reforestation and everybody should be made aware so that the Parthenium can be nipped.
